Plumbing: Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I am building a house. How much should I expect to pay for the primary plumbing and heating portion?

A: Every home is different. Typically, there are architectural plans that indicate the number of plumbing fixtures, the square footage of the structure(s) to be heated, type of construction (stick, log, stone) etc. We make it a priority to have a thorough consultation with each homeowner to determine the scale, and pricing of the plumbing portion of new home construction.

Q: If I purchase plumbing fixtures on my own, will Plumbing Solutions install them for me?

A: Yes we will, with one important caveat: we won't warranty what we don't sell to you ourselves. However, the workmanship (installation and necessary plumbing hook-ups) is fully guaranteed.

Q: Do you install heating systems?

A: Yes. We can and do install every conceivable type of home heating systems, including warm air, forced hot water (baseboard, radiant floors, etc.), with energy provided by Fuel Oil, Propane, Natural gas as well as replaceable fuels such as wood, and wood pellets.

Q: My heating system is getting old. Should I replace it, and are you the company to call?

A: Whether or not to replace your heating system is up to you. We can test the efficiency of your system and let you know how it rates. Almost any heating system that is 20 years old, or older, can be replaced by far more efficient systems. As an even more convenient option, many heating systems can be direct-vented to the outside, eliminating the need for a chimney.

Q: My drain seems to be not working as fast as it used to. Should we call you?

A: Smaller drain clogs are rarely a problem, so yes, give us a call. However, if a clog is large (primary sewage outflow pipe for example) we recommend that this type of clog is better suited for large, special purpose companies.

Q: What about Estimates... do you charge for giving us an estimate

A: No. A Plumbing Solutions, we'll spend the time necessary to get all the information we need, and then give you a FREE estimate of the size and expense of the job.

Q: Do I really need a licensed plumber?

A: Any commercial application...such as a rental property, multiple family unit or ANY water system connected to a municipal water supply and sewer requires a licensed plumber. And, just in case you missed it, Plumbing Solutions features a Vermont-licensed Master Plumber, additionally certified by NORA (National Oilheat Research Alliance) as a technician.
